Sanmar Shipyards Delivers Fourth Powerful Compact Tug to SAAM Towage

Sanmar Shipyards has delivered a fourth compact and powerful Bogacay series tug in two years to South American operator SAAM Towage.
Like her three sisters SAAM VALPARAISO, SAAM PALENQUE and ALBATROS, Bogacay XLVIII, which her new owners renamed HALCON lll, is based on the exclusive Sanmar RAMparts 2400SX design by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd. She will be the first Sanmar-tug built to operate in SAAM Towage’s home country of Chile.
At 24.4m overall length excluding fenders, with a molded width of 11.25m, a molded depth of 4.38m and a maximum operating depth of 5.6m, the Z-drive HALCON lll is powered by two Caterpillar 3516C main engines each producing 2,100 kW at 1,600 rpm. min to achieve and impressive for its size bollard pull of 70 tons. The tug is equipped with Rolls-Royce US 255 FP azimuth thrusters. Able to accommodate up to six crew members, HALCON lll has a free rotation speed of at least 12 knots and carries 72,400 liters of fuel oil and 10,800 liters of fresh water.
Built to American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) requirements, the tug’s ratings are: A1, Towing Vessel, AMS, ABCU, UWILD, Unrestricted Service, Fire Fighting Vessel 1.
