A giant container ship stuck in the Chesapeake Bay for more than five weeks is on the move again.

The Ever Forward freighter reached the Annapolis area around 10 a.m. Sunday where it will remain anchored until it continues its journey to Baltimore, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed. WBAL-TV.

It is not known when the loading will take place and the Coast Guard did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.

The guards said WBFF high tides helped free the vessel, which is owned by Taiwanese company Evergreen Marine.

Although Evergreen Marine has been operating its own for more than two decades, it’s only recently that its US-bound ships have ventured beyond the West Coast.

Diversions to the east coast took place in the second half of 2021 amid spikes in supply chain disruptions and problems at ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach, California.

“It’s part of the growing supply chain backlog,” Sal Mercogliano, a professor of maritime history at Campbell University in North Carolina, told Bloomberg last month.

“To clear the backlog in LA and Long Beach, a lot more companies are using ships like Ever Forward to ship their cargo directly to the East Coast.”

The Port of Los Angeles does not expect to resume normal operations until the second half of this year and the number of ships traveling to the region from Asia has fallen from more than 100 to 43.
